I’m skateboarding again!

I recently posted a video where I tried to ollie over a small yellow kerb. My board got clipped, and I took a slam. Honestly, it wouldn’t even make it into my top 10 falls — but I’ve never really posted my fails before, and I felt like sharing something real instead of just the clean ones.
After that video went up, I received messages and comments from family members telling me to be careful and to wear protection.
And they’re not wrong. I know what they mean – especially about the protection.
I gave it some thought and concluded that you can’t be careful on a skateboard and if you tried, here’s what it would look like.
Every time you step on a skateboard, there’s risk involved. You gain more control over time, but you can fall at any moment. That’s just skateboarding. We accept it because it’s fun.
So today, I tried to be careful. I picked up my skateboard, walked home, sat on the couch and began watching SkateIQ videos again.
This video is obviously meant to be a joke — but there is a serious point behind it. Safety gear does make a difference. Whether you’re just starting, getting back into skating, or skating with your kids, helmets and pads reduce injuries and give you the confidence to enjoy skating longer.

And yes, sometimes the safest move is knowing when not to skate. Here is one of the warning labels found on the skateboard – Skate within your abilities, injury or death may result from improper use. Wear safety gear, follow traffic & pedestrian safety rules.

Here are links to some of the items featured in this video. My skateboard, the skateboard stool and my beloved helmet and pads. They can all be purchased from Shop of Skatan.
Have fun skateboarding and remember to be safe out there!
