Sean Dyche’s reign as Everton manager began in the best possible way, with a 1-0 win over Premier League leaders Arsenal.
Everton is on their way to another relegation battle, recording just one win from their last 12 Premier League games. I can’t handle back-to-back relegation battles.
On 15 April 2022, Dyche was dismissed by Burnley after being with the club for nine and a half years. At the time of his dismissal, the club was in the relegation zone, four points behind Everton, with eight games remaining. Mike Jackson succeeded Dyche as caretaker manager for the rest of the season, with Burnley relegated after finishing in 18th on the final day of the season.
On 30 January 2023, Dyche was appointed manager of Premier League club Everton on a two-and-a-half-year contract, replacing Frank Lampard.
In his first game in charge, the new Everton manager defeated league leaders Arsenal 1-0. This was Arsenal’s second Premier League defeat of the season and their first in the last 14 games. Despite the loss, the Gunners remained top of the table by five points with a game in hand.
Two former Burnley players under Sean Dyche linked up to win the game for Everton. It was a Dwight McNeil corner in the 60th minute which was headed in by James Tarkowski.
Despite the win over the league leaders, Everton still remains in the relation zone this season. The Toffees will need a string of solid performances like this one today to avoid another close call like last season.
