Erling Haaland smashed through the 40-goal barrier in his first season at Manchester City with a hat-trick in his side’s 6-0 FA Cup quarter-final rout of Burnley on Saturday.
Ex-Man City captain and Premier League winner Vincent Kompany returned to the Etihad Stadium as manager of Championship side Burnley. Erling Haaland being in fine form bagged another hat-trick and was substituted early again in the 63th minute.
“Eight goals in four days. I played 11 years in Barcelona and scored 11 goals!” Guardiola began. “He did it. It’s incredible. I made a substitution to him at three goals to not break the record to Messi in the FA Cup.” – Pep Guardiola
Man City manager joked about subbing Erling Haaland off after his hat-trick because he was accused of protecting Lionel Messi’s Champion League record of most goals in a single match when he took Haaland off after he scored 5 times against RB Leipzig.
